THE BEST ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS LOCATIONS IN SAN DIEGO

Sunset Cliffs Surprise Proposal in San Diego, image by Fatima Elreda Photo

Sunny San Diego is such a beautiful city and there's so many different areas to explore. Here are the best engagement photos locations in San Diego. I'm definitely biased, these are my favorite spots. Here's the tea: I have specific criteria when I choose spots for my couples. My favorite locations have multiple backdrops and "areas" within them. This allows for more variety in the images and gives us more to do in one space. If my couples wanted to do two outfits, this also gives the illusion that we went to different places! Sneaky sneaky but it's one of my favorite ways of doing things. Don't tell anyone, it's a secret.

Okay so here are my fav, and therefore, the best engagement photos locations in San Diego, California:

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park in La Jolla

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park in La Jolla is one of my favorite spots in beautiful San Diego. The orange sand on the cliffs compliments the blues in the ocean and sky. These earthy tones make my photographer heart go wild, they're so fun to photograph during any weather condition. What I love most about this place is that it feels surreal; it's so easy to get lost in the beauty and completely forget that you're doing a photoshoot (this is a very good thing). The area also has a ton of nooks and crannies that add variety to your images. There are spots to sit, walk, and just stand and enjoy the scenery. It's a photographer's dream and so it's at the top of my list for the best engagement photos locations in San Diego for that reason!

  • Outfit Suggestions: Colors that compliment the area, earth tones will work best. Blues, beiges, black works too, whites; light colors work best for this area

Bird Rock Waterfront

This little area is an outlook. From it you can see the coast and surfers doing their thing in the distance. The area is at the end of an alley, right next to homes but it's super cute and has a handful of different backdrops for a variety of photos and moments. It's neat because it has the ocean, cacti, a bougainvillea covering an entire fence, and a route down to the beach. The beach here is very beautiful, it has rocks instead of sand which adds a different element and texture to the images. 10/10 recommend, let's gooo!

  • Outfit Suggestions: olive green, beige, sand color, blues, tans, black pants would work too; if your partner wears a pattern then go in fully solid colors; light colors will work best with this environment

Spruce Street Suspension Bridge

This Suspension Bridge is so dope. The natural guiding lines that come from a bridge are gold for composition and images. Basically, there's no doubt we'll get some stunning photographs in this location. Aside from the top area, where the actual bridge is, we will go down below to the lush greenery. The way down is a littttttle sketchy, but trust me and we'll make it through, it's worth it I promise. This particular location is sweet because the two spaces are so so different but somehow just work well together. On the bottom, there's bushes, trees and nature which contrasts drastically with the bridge itself. It gives me very much a secret garden kinda feel. **I'll update this section with more bridge photos soon.

Coronado Beach

Beaches are all great! I'm a SoCal girl and my heart loves the beach. But, beaches with multiple elements are just better... especially for photos! Coronado Beach has an awesome interesting feature.. it has succulents on the sand, a lot of succulents! This adds texture, color, and a whole new element to the images. It also gives us a new space to photograph in what normally would be an ordinary location. A nice perk about this spot is something that has nothing to do with photos... it has a lot of restaurants nearby (all walking distance from the beach).

* I added one photo from a place near Coronado beach, the one with my iced chai latte from Better Buzzed and the city on the other side. These suggestions all fit with it too. I'll add more details about that specific location soon!

Balboa Park

We could not finish the Best Engagement Photos Locations in San Diego list without Balboa Park! If you haven't been here, make a note to go even if it's not for an engagement session. This place has everything you need and want to make a day out of it, from food to museums to gardens. You'll need a week to go through every bit and part of this location, it's massive and beautiful and has so much going on. My favorite parts are the gardens! The desert garden area, the rose garden, and the green house are the cutest spots. These are the areas I'd shimmy to when doing a photoshoot here. I love the greenery and the pops of color from the flowers!
